Posted Friday, February 4, 2011 at 7:49 AM
Hi All, What is up? IT'S FRIDAY!!! I don't know about you, but i have the weekend off, so i love Friday!! to me every friday is like the night before Christmas.. The present is spending time with my honey. This week i had a place by work, so i didn't have to travel over a mountain in the snow.. so i haven't seen honey since Monday.. of course we talk a few times a day on the phone.. Anyhow.. b-salad or oatmeal, fruit l-the last of my white bean soup. d-honey is making a vegan pizza.. i asked him to put the last of the Kale on my half.. that is thanks to someone here saying Kale crisps up nicely.. so i can't wait! after dinner i think we are going to watch the movie "grown-ups" and cuddle.. So what is your food today? Cynthia

b: usual l: leftover quinoa chickpea pilaf (with a sprinkle of ground flaxseed), spinach salad, clementine orange d: not sure s: apple, banana and maybe a cup of cocoa (not vegan, organic fair trade dark chocolate cocoa) because it's just so darned cold...sometimes herbal tea just doesn't cut the bone chillingness. --Deb R

I really can't afford to toss out items, so I've been finishing up what I had, and only buying vegan items now. I think the sugar substitute is aspartame. Wish it was a vegan product, but soon...

You could, if you choose, donate them to a food pantry instead of tossing them but yeah, I know there are things that you just gotta work through that are already in the pantry. I wouldn't have a problem with the gelatin so much (if I actually liked Jell-O) as the aspartame - gives me migraine-like headaches. --Deb R

at least you realize that it is not vegan.. i had wondered when i saw you had it so much.. i thought maybe it was something you were not willing to give up.. i will tell you tho that i had a friend who did brain research.. he absolutely refused to let his children have any artificial sweateners. he was not happy with the lab results.. yes in mice.. i think it may have been aspertane. cynthia

Funny part is I'm not even a huge jello fan. Just eating it to get rid of it. I do love the fruit I've been putting on top the jello, guess I should just eat that!

Then, I'd suggest (gently) if you aren't fond of it and it's not vegan and it's got chemical sweeteners, either trash it or donate it to a pantry. It can either go to waste or go to waist (and hips and thighs and ...) It's a hard lesson - it was hard for hubby whose dad would clear any bits of dinner that were too small for leftovers so they wouldn't go to waste. But, added up over time, that's a recipe for disaster (a few dozen calories here, a few dozen calories there, ...) But then hubby realized that it's cheaper to trash a handful of this or that (or a few boxes of Jell-O that were probably on special at 6/$2.00 or something) than it is to deal with the health issues that might arise from continuing to add the extra calories, additives, dyes, chemicals, etc. to his body (even if it's simply taking Tums to quell the heartburn from overeating - Tums cost more than a few bites of some leftovers or a box of Jell-O). It's kinda the same as getting rid of those old sweaters hanging in the back of the closet that you'll never wear again - if they're in decent shape, donate them. Otherwise, out in the trash. Who needs the extra clutter? --Deb R

Hi All, @ shanel.. I think, and of course it is just my opinion, you are doing great! why beat yourself up over a few cups of coffee?? even if you used white sugar - which i don't see- it isn't worth beating yourself up over.. with that said.. i am a coffee drinker.(2 cups a day) i used to use 1 tsp white sugar. Since the sept kickstart i have skipped it and just put in unsweetened soy milk. it is not as tasty; but sugar is addictive to me, so it is better this way. what i am saying is there might be a way you can figure out a way to have it and maintain a veganish lifestyle. If it is the coffee, there is fairtrade coffee.. also have you tried flavored coffee? if it is the milk.. i think coconut milk is on the plan, along with soy, rice, some are vanilla, some are sweetened and some are not. there should be a combo there somewhere so you can have something you really want?? anyway, i think you are doing great! Also must make a retraction to the group.. it was not artifical sweeteners my friends husband studied. It was MSG. I remembered that last night.. I do have bad reactions to MSG. The side of my neck swells up,becomes hard, hurts and stays like that about a half hour.. so no flavored chips for me!

I don't have that kind of reaction but I do feel 'uncomfortable' after foods with MSG. Not to mention that since it makes foods uber-salty tasting, they are unpalatable since we use so little salt added to foods. --Deb R
