Weigh In
Posted Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 12:22 PM
Okay, many may not like this idea, BUT I am going to weigh in. Maybe if I put it out there it will motivate me a bit more. I weighed 173.5 this morning. I am 5'5" and hoping to achieve 130-135. Anyone else feel they want to weigh in with me, please do. Let's help each other make this work! I absolutely believe the vegan lifestyle is the healthiest. For me it is about limiting fats, stress eating and finding exercise that won't hurt my already hurt body.

For some people, weighing is a huge motivator for weight loss, or at least one way to measure progress. Just don't get hung up on the day to day numbers. If weight loss is your goal, then follow the trend. Otherwise, you may get very frustrated for no reason.

I'm with ya! I weigh 155 pounds at 5'4". I'd like to be between 135 and 140 pounds. Not too much less ... I am going to be 55 years old in two weeks, and my face doesn't look good if I get too thin.

I know what you mean! I am 47 now and I did get down to 130 about 6 years ago. My mom (for the very fist time) told me I was too thin. What I am really after is how good I felt! So I am going t "weigh in" weekly, hope to see you too!! Hopefully we can encourage each other through!

Well, I was at 201.5 on Monday and I have lost 1/2 pound the last two days so this morning I am at 200.5. I am 56 and am on several medications. This morning I learned I have to double my potassium after a renal panel yesterday. I am confident. It would be great to get back down under 200. My own body image is of my 21 year old skinny, minny days as I am 5'9" and always have thought of myself as slim. Therefore, I do not have a true self image that corresponds to the mirror. Lucky me, eh? It's one week later, Tuesday Sep 14th. I am still at 200.5 and 5'9". Experiencing constipation this whole week and have had to take a stool softener. Normally, no problem. As soon as this clears up, I should drop below 200. Could be my blood pressure med that is drying me out but I am drinking lots of water... Am I the only one gaining weight on this plan? I am up to 203.5 and wondering why. Taking 3 stool softeners a day. Perhaps my thyroid has slowed to a crawl..After 2 1/2 weeks of trying, I am adding more fruit.

Yes you are quite lucky. I am of the other breed, I always think I am heavy and then am shocked when I look in the mirror and see I actually am! Take care of yourself! Sounds as though with all the meds it will be a balancing act. Hopefully this will help you get off of them. Right now the only thing I must take is the Vit D. I was tested and found seriously wanting.

I'll play. I'm 56, 5'5", 160 and wish to be 150 hopefully within the 21 days, or at least by Oct. 7 when my skinny best friend from Florida comes to Michigan to visit me. I'm post menopause, still have some killer hot flashes though, and just can't seem to lose more than 4 lbs EVER!!!

I am glad you decided to play! Hot flashes are unkind to all!

Hi Everyone, Count me in for a weekly weigh-in. I'm 5'4, 57 years young, with Type II Diabetes, high-blood pressure, hypothyroid disease, fibromyalgia, and have had a colon resection from advanced diverticular disease that stopped responding to all medical treatments. I weigh 225. I am down from a previous weight of 262, losses from a two year-ish time frame, where my blood sugars were still bad, and my DH and I felt horrible. We began eating vegan in March, were faithful until late summer, then fell off the wagon. I want to rid myself once and for all of all bad eating habits, get my blood values normalized without the looming addition of Diabetes meds, drop my weight to 130-140, and feel better. Since I have a "portion distortion" thing going on from a ravenous appetite, weighing every week would help me to be accountable. Thanks for starting this thread. I'm excited that there will be others to share this with.

I'm way too embarrassed about this. I'm about a month shy of 57, about 5'5" and very overweight. On Monday morning, I weighed 207. (Boy that hurt to type that) This morning I weighed 203. I ate exceptionally poorly on Sunday and would normally have weighed 205 so my 4 pound weight loss in 2 days isn't entirely accurate. For the last few weeks, I have been walking a minimum of 10,000 steps a day. I walk in place in the house if I need to get the steps in. I figure any movement is better than sitting on the couch. Let's see what happens in a week!

That's a lot of steps! I tried to do it and only got up to 7,500. It isn't as easy as it sounds, so you're doing really well achieving that! Don't be embarrassed. Alot of us are where you are. If we'd known many years ago that this way of eating was the right one, we would have done it. Water under the bridge. On to the future!

This isn't to embarrass any one at all! I just needed the extra whatever to get me going and hoped this would be it. To be accountable to someone! I am proud of everyone here to take these steps and for those of us willing to talk what we weigh and put pride aside to get ahead... well hugs to us all! If someone wants to lurk and not post that is okay also! No judgments. Someone once told me you cannot be judged unless you accept the judgment of others. I too at one time weighed over 200 so it is a journey and we are all on different phases of it. HUGS!

I'm in, too. This will help me as well. I am 5'4", 58 and 156 - started at 157. I would like to lose 25 lbs, but know that it will take longer than the challenge. My weight has been stuck between 150-160 and I have a sizable roll around my middle So, now after letting all that out - am looking for support to lose the roll and gain energy. I need the energetic me back - I miss me being healthy. Hey, how do you all add quotes in your lower box in your post?

Have you all noticed how nice and helpful everyone here is?? I am really impressed. I was telling someone last night that I was doing this kickstart with 1,000's of other people around the world. They couldn't believe it. Do these boards continue after the 21 days are over? I will definitely be on a much longer journey for weight loss. It would be nice to continue helping each other if we can. Hopefully, this becomes a lifetime way of eating for me. It was eating poorly that got me here and I hope I don't do the yo-yo thing any more.

I'm so happy to see so many people in my age group here! The March forum is still up, so it appears the boards do continue, at least for awhile, after the 21 days are over.

OK, count me in. I'm 5'11" and this morning weighed 209.5. Shorter term, I want to get below 200. Longer term, I'm happiest about 180-185. I've been vegan since April, trying to figure it out on my own. Doing alright, but I haven't been cooking as much over summer so my diet has gotten just plain boring. Looking to get new ideas on what to make and get more veggies in. Kathi Wisconsin

I am 57 and weighed in on Monday at 212lbs. 5'5 and have been battling my weight for the past 15 years. I have had thyroid problems since early 20's and been on Blood Press. meds. for 10 years. I get so confused about what is healthy (esp. for weight loss!) and what is not! I believe this program will make it much clearer! Count me in for a weigh in each week! Thanks for the support!!
