Normal Side Effects?
Posted Wednesday, September 8, 2010 at 6:53 PM

Hate to be a downer but today I'm feeling a bit under the weather....acid reflux, indigestion and a headache, and just not feeling up to par. Are these normal transition side effects? Anyone have similar experiences and/or advice? I'm really happy I started this kickstart, and I want to stick with it!

Hi there,
It could be several things:
Your body clearing out toxins
A bad reaction or sensitivity to one of the recipes/ingredients
Normal allergies/sinus problems that would have happened anyway

My best guess is #1. When I first went through the transition, I felt horrible for two weeks straight – achy, feverish, sinus trouble, the works. I thought, "why am I doing this if it's going to make me feel this way?" But I kept it up, also using the opportunity to get myself off refined grains and sugar. After two weeks, the "fog" lifted, and I felt a ton better. I felt healthy, fit, lighter, and I could even think better!

Stick with it – I hope that you don't have to feel crummy for 2 weeks, but I do hope that you feel better soon.

***Edit*** Lauren (posted below mine) is absolutely right! Very Happy

I agree with the previous poster that its detoxification. When my DH and I started the program in March, we didn't feel well. Because we were so easily tired, constantly achy (and since I already have fibromyalgia, it wasn't much fun), headachy, fluish-feeling, just totally under the weather, we almost gave it up.

It lasted more than a couple of weeks. One wonderful benefit I had, though, is that the plan almost immediately removed my IBS symptoms, and even with a short fall off the wagon, they have not returned. That told me the program was doing something good, so we stuck it out. This time around, so far, anyway, we're not having any of those adverse effects.

Drink lots of fluids, because that will help. Get extra rest, some "me time." Keep your stress level as low as you can. I can empathize with you, and I hope that if that's what's wrong, it doesn't last too much longer.

Take care Smile

I've been working on vegan for a while now. Last month on a Friday night I decided to "enjoy" four MILD wings. I was so sick for about four or five days. My co-workers were laughing at me. It really tore me up!...I think I'm a VEGAN. Now I want to be an effective vegan. I want to be good enough at it that I can really enjoy it. I want to make it so good that people will ask for it....Elizabeth

Definitely sounds like detox to me too. When I first went vegan (9 months ago), I had a horrible headache, really bad eczema and a little nausea for about a week to ten days. Since then, though, I've felt great (and no more eczema, which is awesome because I've dealt with that my whole life). Hang in there! Very Happy
