salad dressing recipes

Well, out with the oil...BUT, what about salad dressings? I love salad dressings on my salad as well as nuts and seeds. I do not use a lot but I just love them. In the summer, I am fine because I just use fresh raspberries blended down and made into a syrup. But, it is going to be winter and I usually use French or Italian. Does anyone have some good recipes for their favourite salad dressing? I am willing to try everything and anything! Thanks!

Would a rasp vinegar be good? Just skip the oil?

I can't stand salad without a dressing...and vinegar or lemon juice...are SOUR. I don't want a sour salad. I like Creamy Caesar or Ranch. Is there anything out there at all that comes even close?

I dunno.. but what about blending down frozen & thawed whole strawberries (no sugar) instead of using raspberries? I have had some strawberry dressings that were very good.

Balsamic vinegar is not sour and you can even boil it down to make a sweet syrup type dressing. I also use lime juice with cracked black pepper or some white wine vinegar with a little grated garlic and mustard.for a sweeter dressing try sieved raspberries mixed with a little red wine vinegar. Experiment till you find one you like!

I use Alicia Silverstone's Caesar dressing from her book and I tried it yesterday without the oil and it worked well, I just added a little water to make it thinner. I cannot have that dressing everyday since it is quite fatty. In the winter, I do not want fruity dressings. I do not feel right having berries on my salad during winter. I am at a loss!

It's your lucky day.. i was reading Jan quickstart and look what i found.. a present for you!!! " Here's a recipe I found on the internet for a yummy Ranch salad dressing. I made it one day and used it the next. I thought I died and went to "Salad Dressing Heaven" Best Vegan Salad Dressing 1 cup vegan mayonnaise ( I used Vegenaise, found in the refrigerated section at Health Food Store) 1/2 tsp of garlic powder 1/2 tsp of onion powder 1/4 tsp black pepper 2 tsp of parsley (chopped) or dried parsley flakes 1/2 cup of soymilk Whisk all ingredients together. Chill before serving Add more soymilk to thin or more vegan mayo to thicken to your desired consistency. Note: I added a couple tsp of finely chopped chives"

FatFree Vegan Kitchen also has some good recipes: http://fatfreevegan.com/ http://blog.fatfreevegan.com/ I love the Walden Farms products. I've talked them to death, but they allow me to enjoy salad w/o the calories and oil of regular dressing. Not all are vegan, so check the ingredients. They're available online, and in most natural foods stores, as well as in the diabetic section of many grocers. Some grocers stock them in the regular salad dressing section, too. http://www.waldenfarms.com/

Here's a site with quite a few vegan recipes mixed in. I'm always on the lookout for dressings, too. I typically follow Fuhrman's advice and eat 2 cups of chopped raw mixed fruits for breakfast, and try to eat a salad w a pound of raw veggies (spinich, and a variety of chopped veggies), add 1/2 can of beans, and 2 tbsp of a fat free dressing. This keeps me full until dinner, and is working wonders for my digestive functions! http://www.fatfree.com/recipes/dressings/
