Where are you?
Posted Sunday, January 3, 2010 at 10:28 PM
I thought it would be interesting to ask where people are from. Maybe we can connect locally for those living in the same town? I live in Austin, TX and we have a great Vegan restaurant here that I have seen mentioned on this forum, Casa De Luz, where I ate tonight. Anyone else in Austin?

I'm in Oakland, California. We have lots of good vegetarian and vegan restaurants here, but I mostly cook our food at home, because we're pretty careful with our money.

I am in the Portland/Metro, Oregon area. Sweet Tomatoes is one of my favorite restaurants...the salad bar is so good.

I'm in Charlotte, NC. We have a couple of strictly vegan restaurants and a bunch of other restaurants that have vegan options. The all-vegan ones are on the other side of town from me, though, so I don't go to them that often. We don't eat out all that often, anyway.

Portland/Metro area as well! We are lucky to have many options for veg dining, in addition to the yearly VegFest. A couple of friends and I have made it a goal after attending last year's VegFest to try a new veg restaurant a month. One friend has been vegetarian forever, the other is interested, and I spent the last year transitioning to a meat-free diet.

I'm in Parma, a suburb of Cleveland OH. It's not a vegan desert, exactly, but I have to drive a while to get some really good options. There's a couple of restaurants near me in Parma, middle eastern one and an east indian one that have some vegan dishes.

I'm just outside of Vancouver, BC, Canada. Anyone from up my way? We have many wonderful ethnic restaurants nearby that serve great vegetarian meals that can be modified. I was at a Thai restaurant on Saturday and asked for no fish or eggs in the dish and it was no problem for them to adjust it for me. It was delish!!

I live in Grants Pass, a beautiful little town in southern Oregon. I'd love to find others down here in Josephine Co who might be local support buddies.

Salem Oregon, which is about 45 miles south of Portland. Salem is Oregon's capital. There are a few good vegan places to eat here, such as Marco Polo, Soba and Venti's.

I'm in the Asheville, NC area. Asheville is pretty veggie friendly thankfully, but I don't get out to eat much. I'm also possibly moving up to Alaska in about a year or two, although I've heard that it is not very vegetarian friendly (or at least not very vegetable friendly) due to the cold weather and long transports for food involved, so I would appreciate any wisdom out there about being vegan in AK. Thanks!

I live in Baltimore, Maryland and work in Washington DC. I tend to cook most of my food, but there are a number of restuarants to get vegan meals in both Baltimore and DC.

I'm in St. Louis, MO. I cook most of my food but friends have told me about several good vegetarian restaurants in town.

Chicago-area! I find that the really nasty, cold weather that we are experiencing right now make it especially difficult to keep on track with eating less-dense vegan fare. Thank goodness for decaf coffee and veggie chili!
