Who has watched, The Cover?

I rented the Cove on New Years day and watched it, it was such a great documentary. The makers did such a good job filming it.

Of course it put me in a odd state of mind for the rest of the day, but I like to keep myself grounded on animal welfare, so I research and watch things like this from time to time. I do hope the dolphin slaughters in Japan stop. It may take a few years but if everyone put just a tiny bit of effort like these people did to stop this, it would have been done yesterday.

Hi VeggieBeth - I've wanted to see this film as well, but admittedly, am a bit timid as I fear the violence towards the dolphins will be too upsetting. I did watch a documentary on how the film was made, though, which was profound.

As horrific as this slaughter is, we must also remember that those "swim with the dolphins" attractions at hotels/resorts etc. also involves great cost for the dolphins - and this type of cruelty is much closer to home.

All we are saying is "Give Peas a Chance"

Anyone who wants to swim with dolphins can find well regulated swimming with wild dolphins in the atlantic at the Azores and in Bimini Bahamas.

I have followed the film since it was being cut and am desperate to see it. If I manage to finish all my work this week I am going to give it to myself as a reward.Very Happy

And the actually disturbing scenes of outright cruelty to animals are only 3 min long I am told.

I was so moved by watching "The Cove" that I immediately wrote to my Congressional representative. When I visited Hawaii, a highlight of the trip was the dolphins that showed up to swim alongside the catamarans. It was an extraordinary experience to see wild dolphins leaping about with such precision and one of the most beautiful experiences of the trip. I think all of us on the boat that day felt like the dolphins seemed to like us and want to get to know us better. What made it special is that they came out and joined certain boats when they felt like it. They were so playful, graceful, and beautiful.

Yes, animals do want to know us as much as we want to know them it seems. I don't understand why we cannot allow them to do it on their terms rather than torturing, enslaving and murdering them. Especially dolphins who come to be with humans in the water of their own free will. There really is no reason I can think of why it has to be.
