What about Quorn and Dominix products?
Posted Friday, September 10, 2010 at 8:17 AM

I have found two brands I really like and am hoping they're "legal" on the kickstart.

The first is Quorn, which is made from micoprotein (from fungi). It is meatless and soy free. I especially like the "turkey" burger and naked chik'un products, and have made a chik'un salad that is fantastic (if it's legal, I'll post the recipe later!)

The second is Dominix, which is made from eggplant. I buy the meatballs and eggplant slices (which are breaded, so they're probably not a good choice), but they have other products as well.

Thanks for the help!

I don't know of any Quorn products that are vegan, unfortunately. But most of the Dominex products are!

I loved Quorn products! But I'm almost positive that they are NOT vegan. They are made from mushrooms but they contain egg products/egg whites as binding. So, although they are delish, they are more ovo-vegetarian friendly and not vegan.

I know it is tempting to want to substitute "fake" meat for "real" meat but maybe try to reimagine what meals could look like without inserting a substitute. This thinking has really helped me shed pounds and become a healthy vegan.

Best of luck!

Amy
