Holiday treats SOS! Sail in 2 'sugar' season
Posted Thursday, October 13, 2011 at 1:06 PM

If you haven't had a chance to see some of Chef AJ's treats to top the concoctions that find their way into just about everywhere we go as we cruise into the holiday season, I've just posted 2 videos perfect for the season ahead: Pumpkin pie smoothie and Raw brownies.

Unprocessed Chef AJ: Pumpkin Pie Smoothie and Brownies in the Raw.

Lots more in her cookbook Unprocessed. Some good ideas to have ready at hand for pleasing the holiday crowd and family too.

FYI!

I second anything Chef AJ creates. She's amazing!

Thanks - I am unaware of chef AJ but I will check out the book. I need all the help I can get during holiday season. Its coming up to summer here in New Zealand so there are lovely fresh fruit and vegetables available during this time ánd no excuse not to maintain a healthy vegan diet - but its still a mind game when I see all the not so healthy holiday foods everywhere I go. My original weight gain had something to do with not having enough 'wont'power - as in, I wont eat that just because it is there.

Thanks, Lani. I hadn't heard of Chef AJ but the Pumpkin Pie Smoothie looks good. I was hoping the ingredient list was available. Guess I need to find the book.

Deborah, isn't the ingredient list included in the video? I thought it was, but maybe it was another AJ video - she often has the ingredients list printed right there. If you come to the call you can ask and I'm sure she'l answer! In the meantime, I'll watch the video again to check!

kiwi, I know, aren't we absolutely wild? We treat each holiday season like it's the last time we'll ever have access to certain treats. Heavens, it happens every year and you can always bake a Russian Tea Cake in July!

It is SOOO much better to move through the holidays in control and emerge trim and energetic come January first. Now, this is from someone mind you who used to eat more Christmas cookie dough than cookies. At least it was a close match. So I know the temptations and the heartache and the extra 50 lbs that come with it.

What can be very helpful is to pick one special occasion - 2 max - through that 3 month window and plan to enjoy. Make it clear that these are special occasions and not week-long daliances. This way you can give your mind some satisfaction without all he** breaking lose in your body and beltline.

Good advice Lani. I have picked Christmas day (not the entire holiday season) as that is family time where we all get together and my birthday - just because I think everyone deserves a treat on their birthdays. These 2 days are almost 6 months apart so something to look forward to. I am getting more confident with vegan cooking and baking so feel like I can make something nice to share with my non-vegan family these coming holidays and not even mention its vegan unless they ask - now that I have experimented on myself. Most of my experiments have been edible but there has been 1 or 2 things not so great Embarassed
Happy Herbivore chocolate chips cookies - yummm... These are worth waiting 6 months for Very Happy

Sounds like a great plan kiwi and that you have enough experience under your belt to know just what to serve and not have to make a big deal of it! One smart cookie!

So, Christmas is your birthday? Interesting and yes that would be a good day to pick! December for me is wedding addiversary month, my husband's birthday, and of course Christmas!

Stay in touch and let me know what you fix and how it all works out!
