New Year, New You

Need a little extra support in sticking with your New Year’s resolution to get healthier in 2008? Let NutritionMD.org help! This innovative Web site will provide you with the tools to achieve a healthy diet and a chance to win prizes in the New Year, New You contest.

NutritionMD.org offers more than 800 delicious, healthy vegetarian recipes, from Banana French Toast to Fettuccine with Broccoli and Pine Nuts. The site also contains an extensive “Nutrition Tips” section that provides information on everything from reading food labels and dining out healthfully to reducing salt intake and improving kids’ birthday party menus. But the site’s best feature is an interactive meal planner that automatically provides nutrient analyses and a shopping list for your selected dishes.

eating healthy fruitsUnlike fad diets or quick-fix weight-loss schemes, vegetarian diets are safe and effective—and easy to maintain. People who are obese or overweight have an increased risk of heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoarthritis, sleep apnea, and other health problems. But studies show that people who follow a plant-based diet rich in fruits and vegetables not only weigh less than their omnivorous peers, but they also have lower cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugar.

Visitors who set up a free account on the site and create a meal plan by February 12 have a chance to win a $100 gift certificate to Whole Foods or a copy of the highly sought-after Nutrition Guide for Clinicians, a 900-page manual that complements NutritionMD.org, and other prizes. Winners of the New Year, New You contest will be announced on February 15.

Visit NutritionMD.org to get started on the path to better health today.
