Watch James Franco and Kevin Nealon Pledge to Save Chimpanzees

Actors James Franco and Kevin Nealon have joined the fight to end chimpanzee experimentation. In a new video, they explain how they are going to help PCRM pass the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act in 2012.

Franco, star of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, tells viewers that his New Year’s resolution is to “work to stop testing on great apes and help pass the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act in 2012.” Nealon, Saturday Night Live alumnus and star of Weeds, says that he’s going to help protect chimpanzees from experimentation by getting all of his friends to write to their members of Congress.

A recent landmark report from the Institute of Medicine found that chimpanzees are not needed to develop treatments for any human illnesses and supports the need for passage of the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act. The bill would phase out chimpanzee experiments and release federally owned chimpanzees to permanent sanctuaries. It would also save taxpayers almost a third of a billion dollars over the next decade.
