PCRM to Host Gala in April
PCRM’s “Art of Compassion” gala, which will be held during the National Cherry Blossom Festival in Washington, D.C., will give members and supporters a chance to meet and mingle in an elegant setting. Highlights include a star-studded reception, celebrity-inspired silent auction, gourmet vegan dinner, and music and entertainment.
Acclaimed Hollywood writer, producer, and director Wolfgang Petersen (Poseidon, Troy) and Maria Petersen are event chairs for the gala, which will be held on Saturday, April 14, at the Historic Mellon Auditorium. Entertainment will include a performance by Shani Rigsbee, whose music has been featured in the films Crash and One Night with the King, among others. PCRM will also give out three awards: the Henry J. Heimlich Award for Innovative Medicine, the Benjamin Spock Award for Compassion in Medicine, and the Art of Compassion Award, which recognizes extraordinary commitment to the principle of compassion in research and medicine.
The weekend of the gala, PCRM and The George Washington University Medical Center will jointly sponsor a continuing medical education seminar, "Nutrition in Clinical Practice." This seminar will provide a great opportunity for PCRM physicians and other health care professionals to receive required continuing education. Topics will cover the role of diet in weight control, diabetes care, cardiovascular risk reduction, cancer prevention and survival, and women’s health.
Tickets to the gala are $250 and can be purchased online at www.pcrm.org/gala2007 or by contacting Debbi Miller, PCRM special events manager, at 202-686-2210, ext. 340, or email@example.com. All proceeds from The Art of Compassion go to support the work of the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine.
