PCRM Makes Hollywood Debut in Super Size Me
Super Size Me, the award-winning new documentary about a filmmaker who ate nothing but McDonald’s meals for 30 days, features an interview with PCRM president Neal Barnard, M.D, on the addictive nature of unhealthy foods. Since the publication of his recent book on the topic, Dr. Barnard became one of the main media sources for stories about the effect of fast food on America’s obesity epidemic.
In Breaking the Food Seduction, Dr. Barnard reports on new studies showing that meat, chocolate, sugar, and cheese all spark the release of opiate-like substances that trigger the brain’s pleasure center. The book also includes details obtained during a PCRM investigation that proves the food industry, in collaboration with the USDA, has taken advantage of this phenomenon by pushing greater consumption of cheese and other unhealthy foods.
