Hollywood Stars Share Their Favorite Vegan Recipes with PCRM
Vegetarian diets are “in” in Hollywood. And like a growing number of celebrities, movie and television stars Alicia Silverstone and Kevin Nealon know the benefits of following a meatless diet—and now they are sharing their favorite vegan recipes with PCRM.
Actress Alicia Silverstone, star of the hit film Clueless and many other popular movies, television shows, and Broadway plays, shares her delicious recipes for Tasty Tostadas and Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats on www.NutritionMD.org. Peggy McCay, an Emmy Award-winning actress on Days of Our Lives, shares a recipe for the best vegan chili she’s ever tasted. Kevin Nealon, a former Saturday Night Live cast member and star of Showtime’s television series Weeds, reveals his own recipe for Chickpea Tacos. You’ll also find Bill Maher’s recipe for Broccoli Rabe with Garlic and up-and-coming actress and animal advocate Mariana Tosca’s favorite recipe for Curried Pumpkin and Apple Bisque.
But celebrity support doesn’t stop in the kitchen. On behalf of PCRM, Alicia Silverstone recently made phone calls to members of Congress and PCRM supporters, asking for support for Farm Bill reform. Silverstone discussed reforming federal food subsidies in favor of fruits, vegetables, and other healthy vegetarian foods with the media and was a celebrity presenter at PCRM’s 2005 Art of Compassion gala.
Nealon also joined PCRM’s efforts to reform the Farm Bill by sending a letter to Sen. Tom Harkin, asking him to support healthy changes that would help stop childhood obesity. Bill Maher, star of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, starred in PCRM’s radio public service announcement for PCRM, urging medical schools to discontinue live animal labs as part of medical training. He also wrote to Sen. Harkin about Farm Bill reform. And McCay, a long-time PCRM supporter, was a celebrity presenter at PCRM’s 2007 Passion for Compassion gala.
