Bananas and Broccoli Star in New Public Service Announcement
If your food could talk, what would it say? PCRM nutritionists believe that if fruits and vegetables could speak, they’d express frustration about always being passed over for less healthful choices. This amusing idea is the premise of PCRM’s newest public service announcement (PSA).
“Veggie Therapy,” PCRM’s first animated PSA, was created by award-winning animation artist Hsin-Ping Pan. In the spot, fruits and vegetables go to group therapy because they’re so tired of being misunderstood. The pieces of produce are upset that many supermarket shoppers don’t know, as doctors do, that fruits and vegetables, along with whole grains and legumes, can help prevent certain cancers, obesity, heart disease, and diabetes.
The PSA ends by offering a toll-free number—1-877-VEG2DAY—that viewers can call to receive more information about healthful vegetarian diets. Viewers are also directed to www.NutritionMD.org, where they can read about how nutrition affects specific health conditions, access more than 800 recipes, create a meal plan and shopping list, and receive a variety of health and nutrition tips.
“Veggie Therapy” is one of several PCRM PSAs playing on TV and radio stations across the country.
