See Alicia Silverstone's 'Off-Broadway' Vegan Cooking Demo
Vegan actress Alicia Silverstone will appear on Broadway this winter. But on Oct. 10, fans in New York can see her perform in a more intimate space. Silverstone will give a culinary demonstration of recipes from her new book, The Kind Diet, and share tips on how to transform from vegan “flirt” to “superhero.”
On Saturday, Silverstone, star of the hit film Clueless and many other popular movies, television shows, and Broadway plays, will appear at the New York City Wine and Food Festival to discuss The Kind Diet.
In the book, the actress, activist, and conservationist shares insights that encouraged her to swear off meat and dairy forever. Silverstone explains how meat, fish, milk, and cheese are key factors causing escalating rates of diabetes and other chronic diseases and the cause of potentially permanent damage to our ecology. She also outlines the benefits of adopting a plant-based diet, introduces delicious recipes, and shows how to meet all nutritional requirements.
To help readers change lifelong dietary habits, Silverstone also provides a three-step process—Flirting, Vegan, and Superhero—to attaining a vegan diet of whole grains, vegetables, and other plant-based foods.
"This book allows you to fit the menu to your personality and needs," writes PCRM president Neal Barnard, M.D., in the book's foreword. "Whether you would like to jump straight into a healthy menu, flirt with healthful foods for a bit, or go for the maximal benefit from a superhero approach, they are all here for you. Whichever way you choose, you’ll find the process truly eye-opening."
Whether your goal is to drop a few pounds or boost your energy and metabolism, Silverstone provides the encouragement, the information, and the tools you need to make the transition to a plant-based diet.
