Tim Radak, DrPH, R.D.
Tim Radak, DrPH, R.D., is
a nutrition consultant at the Physicians Committee for Responsible
Medicine (PCRM), a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit organization
dedicated to promoting preventive medicine, especially better nutrition,
and higher standards in research. Dr. Radak is also assistant professor and director of the Graduate Dietetic Internship at Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.
As senior nutrition scientist at PCRM,
Dr. Radak conducts research projects on the connection between
plant-based diets and a reduced risk of chronic diseases. Dr. Radak
is a spokesperson for PCRM and attends health and nutrition conferences,
lecturing on plant-based diets for both medical and lay audiences.
Dr.
Radak identifies research program needs and strategic developments
for the NCCC. He develops and administers seminar programs, research
training programs, and provides analyses of emerging research policy
issues.
Dr. Radak received his Master of Public Health and his
Doctorate in Public Health Nutrition from Loma Linda University
in California. His doctoral research and postdoctoral work was
conducted at the University of California, Davis, and focused on
calcium, bone metabolism, obesity, body composition, and community
approaches to physical fitness and nutrition aimed at improving
health-related behavior. Dr. Radak also did graduate course work
in whole foods and preventive medicine at Bastyr University’s
School of Nutrition. He also completed the Registered Dietician
credential and has been a Registered Dietician since 2000.
Dr. Radak
served as an adjunct professor at San Bernardino Community College
and California State University, Pomona, conducted a postdoctoral
fellowship at the University of California, Davis’ Department
of Nutrition, and served as a nutritionist for the USDA Western
Human Nutrition Research Center in California.
Dr. Radak has published
his research in the journal Nutrition
Reviews and has coauthored a chapter on cardiovascular disease modification in The Handbook of
Nutraceuticals and Functional Foods on Cardiovascular Disease Modification.
He has been a guest lecturer at California State University-Pomona,
Loma Linda University, the California Department of Health Services,
and the St. Helena Health Center.
He was a recipient of the American
Dietetic Association’s
Lydia J. Roberts Fellowship in Public Health Nutrition and received
scholarships from the California Dietetic Association and the American
Institute for Cancer Research for his studies. He is also a three-time
recipient of the Selma Andrews Award Scholarship for Professionalism
and Excellence.
Dr. Radak received his bachelor's degree in business
with an emphasis on hotel, restaurant, and institutional management
from Michigan State University’s College of Business. He
studied advanced food service management, French cookery, and beverage
evaluation at Ecole Hoteliere in Lausanne, Switzerland.
Dr. Radak also speaks
Japanese.
