Dr. Darryn Appleton is a general and interventional cardiologist, practicing with Virginia Cardiovascular Specialists in Richmond, Va. He is originally from Auckland, New Zealand, where he completed medical school at the University of Auckland. He moved to Richmond in 2005 and completed his internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship training at Virginia Commonwealth University.

As a cardiologist who treats patients with heart disease, and as an avid distance runner, he has developed a strong interest in the role of a whole food, plant-based nutrition program in optimizing health and well-being. He has followed a vegan diet himself now for several years and advocates this approach to his patients in combination with the best evidence-based therapies to treat and reverse heart disease.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in cardiology and interventional cardiology.
