Frequently Asked Questions
What are the requirements to be listed?
To list their practice, providers must agree to terms and conditions affirming that their practice promotes plant-based diets and/or nutrition education.
Why is the Physicians Committee providing this service?
The Physicians Committee is leading the way in educating people about the benefits of a plant-based diet and wants to help make knowledgeable health care providers accessible to as many people as possible.

The Physicians Committee does not recommend or endorse any health care provider listed in the directory and makes no guarantee that providers listed in the directory are licensed, that the information listed is correct or current, or that providers have expertise or even affiliation with a plant-based diet. No referral relationship exists between or among the Physicians Committee and any of the health care providers listed in the directory. Providers who offer telehealth appointments list the states where telehealth services are available on their profile under “Telehealth”. You may also search for telehealth providers.

For Dietitians in the PDR Database
What is the PDR network?
The Preferred Dietitian Referral program (PDR) is a growing network of vegan dietitians spread across the United States and, possibly soon, the world. The program’s goals include making plant-based nutrition services more accessible to doctors and patients, as well as investing in and supporting dietitians who are passionate about improving human health through healthy, plant-based eating.
How do I qualify to be listed in the PDR?
Registered dietitians must meet five requirements to be listed:
- Be licensed to provide nutrition counseling services in one or more states.
- Be experienced in counseling patients to begin following a vegan diet.
- Be able to provide telehealth services.
- Personally follow a vegan diet.
- Complete occasional trainings.
We also encourage RDs to take private and public (Medicare) insurance, but these are not required.
Why should I sign up to be in the PDR?
We want the PDR to be more than just a static database. Enrolling in this program will connect you with resources, trainings (with CPE), and networking opportunities. We also will be promoting PDR through our numerous connections in the medical community, which we hope will bring added visibility and business to your practice.
What will the trainings be about?
The Physicians Committee will offer free regular trainings. These trainings will cover topics like addressing common questions and challenges patients face when starting a vegan diet, specific conditions like insulin resistance and type 2 diabetes, and helpful resources that you can use or share with your patients.
These trainings will be planned by the PDR team, and when possible, confer CPE credits.
