A famous Chinese proverb says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.” Maryam's formal medical training taught her very little about diet and nutrition, but after entering private practice in 2001, she had to educate herself on better ways of supporting patients with nutrition. Maryam believes that lifestyle is both the poison and the medicine. The China Study was the first book she read that helped transition her way of eating. She has since become passionate about incorporating nutrition into every visit with patients. Maryam's goal always is to write prescriptions for a whole food, plant-based diet, rather than prescribe medications, whenever possible.
