Burger Battle: Meat vs. Plants
Let's say you're super hungry. Would you feel fuller after eating a veggie burger or a traditional hamburger? You're about to find out!
In this episode of The Exam Room™ podcast, meat and plants duke it out in a head-to-head battle to satisfy hunger.
Join "The Weight Loss Champion" Chuck Carroll as he sits down with Hana Kahleova, M.D., Ph.D., to discuss her study that crowns a king in this burger battle.
Dozens of men ate either a meat-based cheeseburger or a veggie burger and were asked to rate which one filled them up the most. No spoilers here, but it was clear that there is an undisputed burger champion for satisfying hunger!
Dr. Kahleova will explain how the winning burger triggered a bigger release of appetite-regulating hormones that kept the men feeling full for a longer period of time. The study offers promising results for long-term weight loss and managing and reducing the risk of type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.
Lee Crosby, R.D., known to listeners as "The Fiber Queen," also returns to the show to discuss the role fiber played in the burger study and how it helps to keep hunger pains from striking. She covers all things fiber from A-Z!
Then, if you're thinking about going vegan but don't know how, Minh Nguyen, R.D., from the Barnard Medical Center makes his Exam Room debut to talk about a two-day program that will teach you everything you need to know about making the switch.
The Kickstart Intensive will be held May 10-11 in Washington, D.C., and will walk you through the transition step by step.
