Plant-Based Diet and COVID-19: What Science Shows | Dr. Neal Barnard
A plant-based diet can help prevent severe cases of COVID-19 and may reduce the risk of becoming infected altogether, according to two studies.
Dr. Neal Barnard explores research analyzing the diets of health care workers in six countries. The findings show that eating less meat and dairy and more fruits and vegetables can reduce the risk of severe infection by as much as 73%. However, a low-carb keto diet appears to significantly increase the likelihood of becoming severely ill.
Dr. Barnard and “The Weight Loss Champion” Chuck Carroll also discuss a second study of nearly 600,000 people that not only confirms the protection against severe symptoms, but also reveals that a plant-based diet can provide protection from becoming infected at all.
Data on vaccine efficacy and safety, the delta variant, breakthrough cases, and infection trends are also discussed.
