Americans Unaware of Cancer Risk Factors
The first annual National Cancer Opinion Survey by the American Society of Clinical Oncology reveals that most Americans remain unaware of major risk factors for cancer. Results from this national survey of 4,016 U.S. adults shows that most have some experience with cancer, with themselves or a family member. Awareness of lifestyle factors associated with cancer risk appeared low. Only 31 percent of those polled identified the strong link between obesity and cancer risk. The vast majority of participants favor strong federal funding for cancer research on improved treatment and prevention.
