Diabetes Toll Worsens

In 2012, 29.1 million Americans had diabetes and 86 million adults had prediabetes, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

In 2010, these statistics were 25.8 and 79 million, respectively. Diabetes patients are at an increased risk for heart disease, stroke, blindness, kidney disease, and amputations, among other complications. The estimated annual cost of diabetes is $245 billion.
