Exercise Does Not Determine Children's Body Weight

Physical activity does not influence preschoolers’ weight, according to a new study from Germany. Researchers analyzed data from 92 children aged 3 to 6 years old for an average of seven consecutive days and found that exercise played no role in overweight or obesity status of children. The study found that socioeconomic status did influence weight status.

The study confirms the findings of previous studies showing that, while exercise has health benefits, it has little to do with body weight, and a lack of exercise is not a factor in the epidemic of childhood obesity.
