Plant Protein Best for Weight Management
Plant protein as part of a vegan diet is best for weight management and insulin resistance, according to a study published in Nutrition and Diabetes. Researchers from the Physicians Committee, led by Hana Kahleova, M.D., compared a plant-based diet to a control diet in 75 overweight participants. Those who followed a plant-based diet had greater reduction in body fat and improved insulin resistance. The authors attribute health improvements to increased consumption of plant-based proteins and decreased consumption of animal proteins, particularly leucine and histidine.
