Soy Does Not Affect Puberty
Soy products do not affect onset of menarche for girls, according to a new study in the Nutrition Journal. Girls in the United States are experiencing puberty earlier in their lives – increasing their risk for diseases such as breast cancer – with several theories regarding its cause.
Some studies have focused on dietary factors, such as animal protein and dairy and soy product intake. Researchers of this study examined the diets of 327 girls who consumed a wide variety and amount of soy products during their lives to conclude it has no effect on the age at onset of menarche.
Recent studies have shown that soy products reduce the risk of breast cancer and improve survival in women diagnosed with breast cancer.
