Type 2 Diabetes Increases Risk of Death from Heart Failure
Patients with type 2 diabetes have up to three times the risk of death from a heart attack, according to a study published online in Diabetes Care. Researchers followed 5,380 type 2 diabetes patients admitted to a hospital after a cardiovascular event and monitored their mortality rates. Those patients increased their risk of death after a recent heart attack or other heart failure by up to 28 percent when compared to those patients without diabetes. Researchers hope these findings lead to closer monitoring of type 2 diabetes patients while hospitalized.
