Human Stem Cells Advance Retinal Tissue Cultures

Human stem cells can assemble into 3-dimensional retinal tissue cultures, according to a new study published in Nature Communications. According to the authors, there are no cures available for individuals with retinal degenerative diseases, despite decades of research. These new in vitro cultures, which more accurately replicate the retina than any previous attempts have, will provide a powerful human-based research platform for future studies.
