Cardiologists Neglect to Refer Patients to Dietitians
Cardiologists neglect to refer patients with heart disease to dietitians, according to an article published in the International Journal of Disease Reversal and Prevention. In a survey of 123 cardiologists, 71% referred 10% or fewer patients to dietitians.
Most of those surveyed thought patients’ lack of motivation or interest in nutrition was the largest challenge to lifestyle changes despite research to the contrary.
Nonetheless, the survey also showed that 59% of cardiologists believed nutrition interventions improve health outcomes as much if not more so than pharmaceuticals.
