Gut Bacteria Linked to Heart Disease

Gut bacteria is linked to arterial stiffness, according to a study published in the European Heart Journal. Researchers compared a specific measurement of arterial stiffness with gut microbiome in 617 participants. Specific bacteria linked to inflammation influenced arterial stiffness independent of other risk factors, including obesity. The authors suggest treatments to alter gut microbiome, such as high-fiber diets, may aid in heart disease treatment and prevention.
