Plant-Based Diets Best for Kidney Disease Patients

Plant-based proteins satisfy requirements for those with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and offer other health benefits, compared with animal-based proteins, according to a publication in the Journal of Renal Nutrition. Scientists reviewed the research surrounding protein sources and chronic kidney disease and found that the notion of animal-based proteins as being the preferred protein in CKD is outdated and even dangerous for the patient. The authors stress that plant-based diets offer protection against high blood pressure, hyperphosphatemia, and other conditions.
