World’s Leading Experts on Nutrition in Medicine to Convene at Conference in Washington, D.C., Aug. 10-12
WASHINGTON, D.C.—On Aug. 10-12, Sen. Cory Booker and New England Journal of Medicine Editor-in-Chief Eric J. Rubin, MD, PhD, will kick off the 11th annual International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine, which will bring together the world’s leading nutrition experts to discuss the latest on dozens of nutrition topics including recent controversies around Wegovy and other weight loss drugs, dairy consumption and cancer risk, plant versus animal protein, and improving hospital food.
Presenters include Neal Barnard, MD, Physicians Committee president; Dean Ornish, MD, nutrition researcher and New York Times bestselling author; Michael Greger, MD, author of How Not To Die; Kristi Funk, MD, breast cancer surgeon; and many others.
Physicians, advanced practice clinicians, dietitians, nutrition educators, and others will learn from more than two dozen experts about the latest research on nutrition and how to use it in their everyday practice. The conference at the Grand Hyatt Washington, 1000 H St., NW, Washington, D.C., is jointly provided by the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine, a nonprofit health advocacy organization of more than 17,000 physician members, and the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Along with virtual opening remarks from Sen. Booker and Dr. Rubin, a few conference highlights include:
- A panel discussion on weight loss drugs, surgery, and nutrition with bariatric surgery specialist Garth Davis, MD, of Houston Methodist, Neal Barnard, MD, Jamie Kane, MD, James Loomis, MD, and Hana Kahleova, MD, PhD.
- The latest on nutrition for health with Dean Ornish, MD.
- Kristi Funk, MD, will lead a panel on the latest on breast cancer prevention and survival.
- Leaders from New York’s innovative hospital food system that puts vegan meals front and center.
- Michael Greger, MD, will present his new findings on how not to age.

Last month, Santa Clara Valley Healthcare became the first public hospital system in the nation to include Universal Meals on the cafeteria menu for employees and visitors.
“Nutrition has proven to be a surprisingly powerful force for health,” says Physicians Committee President Neal Barnard, MD, FACC. “The International Conference on Nutrition in Medicine gives health care providers the lifesaving knowledge and tools they need to help their patients and the public.”
The conference will provide physicians, nurses, dietitians, and pharmacists with up to 20 continuing education credits for attending.
