Angelia Dickinson, MS, ALC, ADC, DipACLM
Food for Life Instructor
Angelia Dickinson is a native of Prichard, Alabama. She was raised in an underprivileged community in a region with a severe lack of accessibility to nutritious foods. For this reason, Angelia advocates for food justice for all. She holds a Master of Science degree in counseling and psychology from the University of West Alabama. Moreover, Angelia is a certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor for the state of Alabama and a board-certified Lifestyle Medicine (LM) Professional with the American College of Lifestyle Medicine. In addition, she is a licensed Food for Life instructor with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine and an Associate License Counselor accredited by the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling (ABEC). Currently, Angelia is a dietetic student at the University of Alabama (UA) majoring in Food and Nutrition Science, where she is studying to become a registered dietitian nutritionist. She is expected to graduate from UA in August of 2025. Angelia also works as a contracting therapist for a mental health agency, where she executes her program called "Jumpstart to Wellness." Within this program, she teaches the basic concepts of whole food and plant-based nutrition infused with mental health to students at all five Boys & Girls Club locations in South Alabama. Additionally, Angelia works as a contracting behavioral health clinician by examining patients through behavioral modification.
Angelia is the founder of a nonprofit called Wholistic Wellness Community, Inc. Using this platform, she teaches one to two free whole food, plant-based cooking classes every month within her community, often using the six LM principles. To assimilate widespread awareness in Mobile, AL, Angelia has established the 1st plant-based meet-up hosted quarterly. During this meet-up, she educates participants on the six pillars of LM. Furthermore, Angelia has formed a health ministry within my church called "Faith, Food, and Health." She liaises with members to offer them evidence-based nutrition education by incorporating the LM principles. Angelia has also recently advocated initiating a pilot Healthy Snack Program at one of her region's Title One school Pre-K classes, for which she advocated and received funding. Based on her diverse and wide-ranging activities in her field, it can be claimed that Angelia's passion for LM is irrefutable.
In the future, Angelia plans to enter private practice and specialize in the prevention, treatment, and reversal of chronic conditions, including Type 2 diabetes, coronary artery disease, hypertension, and certain autoimmune diseases. She wants to leverage evidence-based LM in her treatment plans, with an emphasis on whole food and plant-based nutrition and behavioral modification. Likewise, she aspires to focus on community nutrition within the black community and offer more accessible healthy foods to the members of various impoverished communities. In addition, Angelia plans to infuse Lifestyle Medicine in marginalized communities.
